Where to start
Start with your effective rate. It takes two numbers off your last statement, and the other tools are more useful once you know it.
Weighing a new quote? The flat rate vs interchange-plus calculator shows what each model would have cost you for the same month. Thinking about passing card costs on to customers? Check the surcharge calculator and the map first, because a few places, Quebec among them, don't allow surcharges at all.
When you'd like someone to go through the statement with you, send it for a free statement review. Our guide to reading a merchant statement shows where the numbers sit, the pricing page explains how interchange-plus works at Clearo, and the surcharging program page covers how we set surcharges up.
Questions about these tools
Do these calculators store or send the numbers I enter?
No. The math runs in your browser. We don't save what you type or send it to us, and reloading the page clears it. If you want us to look at your real costs, send a recent statement for a free statement review.
Where do the surcharge rules in these tools come from?
From our state and province pages. Each one names the statute, regulator guidance or card network rule behind its status and links the official source. A state we have no page for yet shows the sources we checked for it, and every US state shows the day we last checked it. Laws and network rules change, so check the linked source before you change how you charge.
Which tool should I use first?
The effective rate calculator. It needs only your total fees and total card sales for one month, and the result gives you a baseline for comparing quotes and a first idea of what accepting cards costs you, which also limits any surcharge.
Can these calculators tell me what Clearo would charge me?
No. They don't use any Clearo rate. To see what your own month would cost on our interchange-plus pricing, send a recent statement for a free statement review and we'll price it for you.
