Spokane Valley's combined sales tax rate is 9.0% for October 1 to December 31, 2026: a 2.5% local rate plus the state's 6.5%, under location code 3213. The City of Spokane is at 9.1%, so a business with customers on both sides of the city limit needs both rates in its system. Licensing runs through the state. The Department's endorsement page says the City requires a license for every business located inside its limits or doing business there, and you add the City endorsement to your state business license application. It costs $25 to open and $25 to renew, and a registered nonprofit pays $10. A business based elsewhere pays nothing for the endorsement while its gross income in the Valley stays at $4,000 or less, and $25 once it goes over. Home businesses have their own City rules, so call the City before you list a house as your business address.
The Census Bureau estimated 108,405 Valley residents in July 2025, 5.2% more than its April 2020 base.
