North Las Vegas grew 14.3% between April 2020 and July 2025, faster than Henderson at 11.5% over the same stretch. The Census Bureau's estimate puts the city at 296,653 residents, up from a 2020 base of 259,479. That's about 37,000 more potential customers than the city had five years earlier.

Sales tax is the simple part. Nevada sets rates by county, and the Department of Taxation's county map lists Clark County at 8.375% since January 1, 2020. North Las Vegas, Las Vegas and Henderson all sit in Clark County, so a contractor or delivery business working across the valley charges one rate everywhere it goes. A $75 sale carries $6.28 in tax. Confirm the current county rate with the department before you program a terminal.

Licensing is less uniform. North Las Vegas is its own city with its own government, so don't assume a Las Vegas or Clark County license covers work there. Reno and Henderson each require their own city license, and it's worth asking the City of North Las Vegas what it needs before you open or take jobs inside its limits.

On card fees, we found no Nevada statute that bans or caps surcharges. The Attorney General's 2020 consumer alert treats them as legal when they're posted at the point of entry and the point of sale, itemized on the receipt, and no more than your cost of accepting the card. Visa and Mastercard add that debit and prepaid cards can't be surcharged at all, which limits what a surcharge recovers if many of your customers pay with debit.

Common questions

What sales tax rate do North Las Vegas businesses charge?

Clark County's. The Department of Taxation's county map lists 8.375%, effective January 1, 2020, the same rate Las Vegas and Henderson businesses charge. Nevada sets these rates by county rather than by city, so check the department's current Clark County figure rather than an old receipt.

Does a Las Vegas business license cover work in North Las Vegas?

Don't assume it does. North Las Vegas is a separate city with its own government, and Henderson, for example, requires its own license from anyone conducting business within its limits. Ask the City of North Las Vegas what it requires before you take jobs or open a location there.

How much of my card volume can a surcharge actually cover?

Only the credit card part. Visa and Mastercard don't allow surcharges on debit or prepaid cards, so if $20,000 of your $50,000 in monthly card sales is debit, a surcharge can only apply to the other $30,000, and only up to your cost on those cards. Check your debit share on your statement before you count on the savings.

How do I tell customers about a surcharge in North Las Vegas?

Post signs at the point of entry and the point of sale, and itemize the surcharge on the receipt, as the Attorney General's 2020 alert describes. Visa also requires 30 days' notice to your acquirer before you start. Our guide to surcharge signs covers wording and placement.

What payment setup suits a new North Las Vegas business?

It depends where you get paid. A storefront usually starts with a countertop or wireless terminal, while a contractor or mobile service needs tap to pay or a mobile card reader. If you sell online, you'll want hosted checkout with fraud screening. We price all of them on interchange-plus, with no long-term contract.
